One of my favorite pastimes is making grandmotherly things un-grandmotherly. Or, so I hope. Case in point: crewel embroidery + baroque excess. A month ago, I think I hated crewel, mostly because I associated it with that hippie/boho revival thing from a couple of years ago that makes me want to puke. Lesson learned: one musn't throw out the baby with the bathwater. This is almost a case of "a spoonful of baroque helps the crewel go down." You know?

How could you have been so crewel? Poor baby! Glad you had a change of heart.
Im diggin this pic!
Is this a crewel joke? So close to Russian embroidery, Sarah Palin can see it from her backyard.
I LOVE this vignette!! It is a great mix ...you have a good eye!
HBD-witty
Fabulous SUCCESS as is the NORM for you!
Love the combos...
Crewel is kewl! Love what you have done here, and I'm so glad you did not throw it out! I've learned this lesson before. My creative mind changes daily.
I adore crewel. There is a room at Dumbarton Oaks...Jacobean paneling from England and MILES of 18th-century crewel curtain panels (now replaced with reproductions painstakingly made by a woman in Maryland). You would love it.
I love crewel...so call me a grandma...I still love it and want to cover my dining room chairs with it...however,
I have a fab sample from a friend, that I may have to slam up on the wall, and then hang a mirror or artwork. Well done! I adore your originality and creative solutions!
