I'm not quite sure why, but there's this three year old in me that has a very... emotional... gut response to graphic touches like stripes, polka dots and checks.
Especially stripes, the thicker, the better. Seeing stripes is like having someone plop one of those swirly hypnotic devices in my face. I become embarrassingly transfixed. I can't look away!
My saving grace? Taking comfort in knowing that I'm not the first to suffer from this graphic fixation.

I don't think you are a three-year old. Far from it. There is this primordial (Jungian perhaps) feeling about these graphics that melt some hearts and others not one whit. All my life I have been smitten by stripes and I love the pattern of bias strips of stripes on stripes. In my hallway I hang stripe curtains of black and white just to watch the drape and hang as it comes to rest on the black and white (set on diamonds of course) floor. It is a neutral with a bit of an edge that brings all colors and patterns into sharper focus. Ah, the games we play.
I love stripes. I've been considering them in my studio, I have some green paint that has not been used.

YES! Stripes cause endorphins to release from the brain for me too! I am a sucker for tents as well....great post!
Oh I definitely agree with you on stripes, the thicker the better. It's so hard to look away, they draw you in.
