Flesh Flowers

Hope everyone is having a fabulous holiday season!

Somehow, I managed to stir myself from my eggnog induced stupor long enough to shovel myself out of a mini storm and then make these floral harnesses.

Wintry white leather flowers, on glossy black patent shoes.  Not exactly a fruity field of flowers,  they're a far cry from the cakey capo di monte's that served as inspiration, I think.

Here are my beloved capo di monte porcelain flowers.  I could EAT these (and apparently wear them, too) they look so delicious.

Leather flowers are easy to make: Use vegetable tanned leather, cut into pinwheels, soak in water, and then fit them together and form them like this:

The flesh beasts before, and after, I painted them white.  You know, I sort of like them in their natural fleshy state... there's something simultaneously gross and appealing about them.

They definitely add a "white christmas" touch to your boots, and they look amazing, but I can't agree with them since they're leather ahah!
Isn't there a way to do these in leatherette? Mmmh I think they wouldn't keep the shape! :(

a great nod to all things capo di monte! Thanks for the tutorial on making the flowers.

The flowers absolutely sparkle! The leather work reminds me of a kawasaki rose, even though it is much more spontaneous and (perhaps therefore) more interesting.

So beautiful- How have they held up? Like others, I'm questioning how they stay together.

Ooo, those are lovely. I'm going to have to have a go at making some of those (maybe white, but more than likely in black or purple). Thankyou for sharing how you made them. I wish people did post stuff like that more often - it's all well and good going "Oh! wow! That person makes fabulous things, I want to have a go too" but it's much better when it's "Oh! wow! That person makes fabulous things. This how I can have a go too, YAY!"

Also, I used to have some very similar ceramic flowers, given to me by my grandmother. My cat, unfortunately, sent them flying off a window-ledge and they are no more :( They were never quite my taste in ceramics, so I don't mourn them too much. I've got this thing from greenish earthy stuff in simple forms. I like ceramics that remind me that clay comes from the ground.

OMG! These are the ones you gave me for Christmas that year!! Have I told you lately how much I still LOVE them? I've been using them as handbag straps when they aren't wrapped around my high heel riding boots (the ones with the spurs), and I get compliments everywhere I go. You are the greatest!!
